1. Who is responsible for your information
Slow Morning Co. is the trading name of the sole-proprietor writing studio of Marin Kessler, a copywriter based in Asheville, North Carolina, United States (“Slow Morning Co.”, “we”, “us”, “our”). Marin Kessler is the sole person who decides how personal information reaching this business is used — the data controller, in the language of privacy law.
You can reach us at any time at hello@slowmorningco.com.
If you came here from our Facebook Page or Instagram profile: when you send us a message or share your details with us there, it is Slow Morning Co. that receives and uses that information, not Meta Platforms, Inc. Meta operates those platforms and handles your data under its own policies as well, but we are the ones responsible for what we do with anything you send us. See section 6.
2. What this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- this website, slowmorningco.com, and every page on it;
- email you send to, or receive from, an
@slowmorningco.comaddress; - messages and comments you send us on our Facebook Page and Instagram profile;
- information exchanged while we quote, run or deliver a copywriting project.
It does not cover websites we link to, or the platforms themselves. Once you follow a link away from here, the privacy policy of that destination applies.
3. What we collect
We keep this deliberately small. There are exactly three ways we end up with your information.
3.1 Information you send us yourself
When you email us or message us on social media, we receive whatever you choose to include: typically your name, your email address, your company, your website, and the details of the project you are describing. You decide what goes in that message.
3.2 Information from working together
If we go ahead with a project, we will also hold the things a project needs: a billing name and address, invoices and payment records, the brief, and any materials, drafts, logins or customer research you share with us so the work can be written.
3.3 Standard server logs
This site is served by a third-party hosting provider. Like every web server, it records basic technical data for each request — IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser's user-agent string. These logs exist for security and reliability, are generated by the host rather than by us, and are not used to build a profile of you or combined with anything else we hold.
4. What we do not do
As of the date at the top of this page, this website:
- sets no cookies of its own and asks your browser to store nothing;
- runs no analytics — no Google Analytics, no heatmaps, no session recording;
- carries no advertising pixel or conversion tracking of any kind, including Meta's;
- has no contact form, no newsletter signup and no live chat widget;
- loads no third-party fonts, scripts or embeds — every file this page needs comes from slowmorningco.com itself, so loading it does not announce your visit to anyone else.
We have never sold personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use your information to train machine-learning models, and we do not publish client material without asking first.
5. Why we use your information
- To answer you. To reply to your enquiry and talk through what you need.
- To quote and deliver work. To scope a project, write it, revise it and hand it over.
- To get paid and stay compliant. To issue invoices and keep the tax and accounting records we are legally required to keep.
- To keep the site up. To protect the site against abuse and diagnose faults, using the logs described in 3.3.
For visitors in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, our lawful bases are performance of a contract (or steps taken at your request before entering one), compliance with a legal obligation for financial records, and our legitimate interest in replying to enquiries and keeping this site secure.
6. Facebook and Instagram
We run a Facebook Page and an Instagram profile. When you comment, react or send a direct message there, two separate things happen at once:
- Meta processes your data as the platform operator, under the Meta Privacy Policy and the terms you agreed to when you created your account. We do not control that, and we cannot delete your Meta account data for you.
- We receive your message and act on it as a business. If you send us your email address or project details in a DM, we treat that exactly like an email to us: it is covered by this policy, used only to reply and quote, and deleted on request.
We can see the aggregated, anonymous audience statistics Meta gives every Page owner (how many people saw a post, broad age and country breakdowns). We cannot see who you are from those figures, and we do not try to match them to anything else.
We do not run lead-generation forms, and we do not upload contact lists to Meta for ad targeting. If that ever changes, this section will be rewritten before the first campaign runs.
7. Who else sees your information
No one, apart from a short list of service providers we cannot run a business without. Each of them only receives what their function requires:
- our website host, which serves these pages and keeps the server logs in 3.3;
- our email provider, which carries messages to and from
@slowmorningco.com; - an invoicing and payment provider, if you become a client;
- an accountant and, where the law requires it, a tax authority or a court.
If the studio is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner, who would remain bound by this policy until you are told otherwise.
8. How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become projects: deleted within 12 months.
- Client project files: kept for 3 years after the last piece of work, so we can answer questions about copy we wrote.
- Invoices and financial records: kept for 7 years, as US tax rules require.
- Server logs: retained by our host on its own short rolling schedule, typically weeks rather than months.
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@slowmorningco.com and we will answer within 30 days. We will not charge you, and we will never treat you differently for asking.
California residents
Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of — but the right to know and to delete applies fully, and exercising it will never affect the price or quality of our service.
UK and EEA residents
You also have the right to restrict or object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting what was done before.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our providers are mostly US-based, so information you send us will be stored and processed there. If you write to us from outside the US, please send only what you are comfortable having handled under US law.
10. Children
This is a business-to-business service and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.
11. Security
This site is served over HTTPS. Email accounts and the tools we use are protected with strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication, and client materials are kept only as long as section 8 allows. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send passwords or payment card numbers by email — if a project needs credentials, ask us for a secure way to hand them over.
12. Changes to this policy
If we add a tool that changes what we collect — analytics, a contact form, a newsletter, an advertising pixel — we will update this page and change the date at the top before that tool goes live. Material changes affecting current clients will also be sent by email.
